NEWS (text/ Guo Baobao  photo/Jing Yue  Teng Wenxin   Intern reporter/ Zhang Gege   Yang Xinyi  Zeng Jing  Zhang Junfeng  Zhou Juanxi): On October 20 morning, the 2017 4th Central China International Design Science Seminar kicked off in the International Conference Hall of the Xianghu Campus of Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute. Director of General Office of Provincial Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs Guo Jianping, President of Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute Ning Gang, vice mayor of Jingdezhen Zhang Hualiang attended. The seminar attracted representatives from universities of France, England, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea and Thailand etc., renowned specialists and scholars from domestic institutions of higher education such as Nanjing University of the Arts, Wuhan University of Technology, Zhejiang University, and Tsinghua University, as well as major media. The opening ceremony was hosted by the dean of School of Art and Design.

President Ning Gang extended welcome and gratitude to the participating specialist, scholars, and guests from home and abroad. He said, “This seminar would be a high-level academic meeting, and would have far-reaching academic significance, value and influence. We will try our best to offer convenience to specialists and scholars from home and abroad present here, and I believe, through joint efforts, we could integrate the latest design ideas, spark inspirations of development of design science, and thus create driving force to promote development of Chinese design science.”

During the two-day seminar, specialists and scholars from home and abroad exchanged and discussed on six topics, including research on macro themes like “Community Construction and Future of Chinese Design”, “Human Natures and Physical Properties of Design—Philosophical Reflection on Design”, “Innovative Design and Made in China 2025”, “Nine Principles for Supporting Design Innovation under Strategy of One Belt and One Road”, “Industry Development, Artistic Taste, and Artificial Intelligence—Three Application Fields of Contemporary Design Theories”, and “Use Design as Tool for Protecting Cultural Heritage”, research on specific themes like “Construction Scheme for Building University Town of Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute and Jingdezhen Ceramic Art Town”, “Aesthetic Value Reinstatement of Folk Handicrafts in Contemporary Context—Field Investigation on Wang Guiying’s Paper Cutting and Cultural Anthropology”, “Thailand Art and Design”, “Design Features of Japanese Ceramics and Contemporary Artifacts Culture”, “Audio Interactive Design: Audio Speculation in Future Education of Design Major”, “Spirit and Practice: Development History of Higher Education of Industrial Design in America”, “ Kaogongji ( Book of Diverse Crafts) and Core Gene of Chinese Craftsmanship Spirits”, “Promote Development of Education and Industry by Portugal Online Poster Museum”, “Public Design of South Korea in the Big Data Context”, practical achievements of theoretical research on design education centered on themes like “How Should Ceramics Education Adapt to the Transformation Development of Ceramic Cultural Industry”, “Education of Design and New STEAM Era”, “Research on Constructivism Teaching Philosophy of Interior Design Major in Higher Education Institutions Based on Information Technology”, as well as researches on expectations and planning of design development like “Design Would Definitely Change the World” and “Social Properties and Future Development Trends of Design”, all of which are helpful for promoting explorations and researches on the subject of design science for colleges and universities in Jiangxi even the whole country.
