Ceramic
Ceramic is the foundation and core of Jingdezhen. Since AD 10th century, China has spread porcelain making skills and industrial civilization to Korea, Japan, and Europe. For westerners, Jingdezhen becomes an important window of understanding and learning Chinese culture and is one of industrial cities with the earliest seeds of capitalism in China. The pronunciation of “Changnan” is similar to the pronunciation of “China”, and china is the same with China. Jingdezhen is not only a holy place of ceramic all over the world, but also an important symbol of Chinese civilization. During the Yuan Dynasty, Kublai Khan established Fuliang Ceramic Bureau before he became an emperor. During the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang set up Imperial Kiln in the second year of Hongwu reign. Until now, Imperial Kiln has a long history of more than 630 years. During the long history, Jingdezhen has absorbed widely from other famous kilns’ successful experience across the country. The produced porcelains have gradually formed the distinctive feature of “as white as a jade, as bright as a mirror, as thin as a piece of paper, as songful as a musical instrument”. “China is known for a ceramic country, and Jingdezhen is regarded as a ceramic city. Jingdezhen is the capital of ceramic in China as well as in the world. In recent years, the protection and development of cultural heritage and modern industrial heritage have been strengthened. In 2014, Jingdezhen won the name of “the capital of world handicraft arts and folk arts”.
Many ceramic masters and professional talents gather in Jingdezhen. It has a large number of experts with special government allowance of the State Council and Jiangxi province, national level masters of arts and crafts, ceramic arts and crafts professors, provincial and municipal senior industrial artists and folk ceramic artists, and people working in the ceramic industry. Every year, thousands of domestic and overseas ceramists are attracted here to create and exchange, which forms a large and abundant ceramic team.
Tourism
With a profound culture and rich ecological resources, Jingdezhen highlights its regional features to vigorously develop the tourism industry led by ceramic culture. This year, its total number of tourists has reached 25.8508 million, an increase of 15.3% over the previous year; the tourism revenue has reached ¥20.087 billion, an increase of 31.9% over the previous year; the proportion of tourism revenue accounts for 27.2% of gross regional production, which has realized the target proportion of 18.6% in The Twelfth Five-year Plan. In the future, “one core area and three district areas” tourism spatial distribution will be constructed in Jingdezhen. The core tourism industrial area takes Changjiang historical district, modern ceramic industry cultural region, and central urban commerce shopping district as its main part. The three district areas are Changjiang with ceramic charm, colorful Leping, and Fuliang with beautiful landscape. Relying on culture, history, and ecology, the three district areas are developed rapidly.
